My approach to design is built upon my general love for making things, whether I'm assembling a mechatronics contraption or painting en plein air. This page includes my personal projects spanning engineering and art, including some more experimental work.
Note: I'm working on writing up dedicated pages for some of these projects, but for now they just live here :)
Robotics/Programming Projects:
I entered college coming from a primarily mechanical engineering background, and I've always loved tinkering with electronics and experimenting with mechanical systems.
Thermal Camera
Class Project (made for 4.031 - Objects and Interaction)
Fall 2024
Fall 2024
Arduino [C++], Electronics [Thermal printing, Physical UI], CAD, 3D Printing, Sheet Metal Bending
In collaboration with my teammate Teresa, we designed, tested, and manufactured this handheld instant camera that adds an element of gamification to the process of taking a photo.
When taking a photo, the user plays a short LED-button-matching game. Their final score determines the clarity of their photograph, which is printed out onto thermal paper for them to tear off and take away as a memento.

Arduino [C++], Electronics [Motor control, Physical UI], CAD, 3D Printing, Path Planning [Python]
I made this robot with my classmate Lee! Essentially, we built a standard 3-axis pen plotter (X/Y/Z) and then added
2 rotational degrees of freedom (pitch/yaw), allowing the robot to "draw" with and tilt a brush pen to create variable-width calligraphic strokes.

Arduino [C++], Electronics, CAD
I primarily helped out with CAD and mechanical design for this project, which I worked on with classmates Eric, Claudius, and Keiji.
With the power of electromagnets, a thin carbon-fiber gameboard, a CoreXY gantry, and the Stockfish chess engine, this robot beats just about anyone at Chess!

Conceptual Art Projects:
I love contemporary art, particularly new media/ technological art and work that deals with themes of multiplicity, mass culture, and media theory.

Parodying predictive technologies such as horoscopes, this project seeks to examine how we do (or don't) allow automated technologies to dictate the ways we perceive reality.
Every minute, this bot scrapes three random adjectives from the internet and rotates it into its "good morning" copy text.
I installed it in our apartment's shared living room over a period of one month and collected my roommates' responses to the object.

Laser Cutting, Sheet Metal Bending, Photography, Editorial Design
I led this project in sophomore year, overseeing creative direction and fabrication.
Using bent sheet aluminum (alloy 6061!), we created and photographed metal garments inspired by forms and tensions drawn from nature.

Sewing, Quilting, Photography
I led this project in junior year, seeking to examine the ways we interact with and internalize our physical bodies. By sewing and stuffing a life-size
facsimile of a human body, I wanted to create a sense of eerie intimacy and tautness through photography.

I've been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember! My favorite mediums are gouache paint and black ink, and I especially like to draw plants and fantasy worlds.
